Walking By The Spirit

So went to church yesterday. He talked about worshiping in Spirit and in Truth. He didn't get into enough depth though. He talked about Jesus and the Samaritan at the well. That they worship in one place but the Jews worship at Jerusalem, John 4.  Talked about how it's not a place but a state of lifestyle.  The things that he mentioned were overall true but there was more meat on that topic.

He only mentioned the word commandments once in his whole service.  Even when he mentioned it he didn't elaborate about them but went different with it.

So while it is true that worshiping is not to be in a specific place but a lifestyle.  God is SEEKING for people who worship in spirit and in truth.  John 4:23-24, 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

So how can your life be one that is worshiping in Spirit and in Truth?...

Well God's word says in Romans 8 that to live by the Spirit is to surrender to God's law.  This may seem weird to some, the surrendering, but it's not like a policeman tells a criminal to surrender, it's more in trust and a growing love...

Romans 8:1-8

Life Through the Spirit

8 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

Pay attention to the laws of sin and death. The laws of sin and death are what was nailed to the cross for the believer through Jesus. Colossians 2:14 The laws that basically say you sinned so either you must die in order for justice to be made or someone or something must shed it's blood, and die, in order for you to be forgiven. Now go back to the scripture...

"because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death."...

This righteous requirement is not for salvation. But as believers we are to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and blameless. Which is our reasonable service. The bible also says we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength. So there is strength in Christ for us to be obedient but it's a process.

Romans 6:19

19 I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness.

Then later it says...

21 What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

So now lets see what Jesus says...

John 14:21

Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them."

John 7:38

Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, 'Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.'"

"Rivers of living water!!"

So ways to worship God in spirit is through obedience to God's commandments as well as others.

When you obey you are worshiping God. You are showing your love through your faith in Christ. This is where abiding in Him comes from. When a person abides in Jesus then the river, that is fresh and alive, may be imparted into your spirit. So that you can bless others with that same freshness...

So now when you are in your daily life don't think that your little choices don't matter because they do. You can honor God and love Him with the small choices that you make....

So lets go back and be thorough. Making sure you don't leave a good portion of meat behind...

Romans 12

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Psalm 19:7

7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.

another translation...

Psalm 19:7

7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

Make Sense?...

There's more detail about the "converting the soul" so i can make a post about that later. The reason why i don't want to do it on this one is because i want to have it more concentrated on one topic...

So click play and enjoy the lyrics. Also don't forget to watch the video because there are extra verses that get posted...
